Julius Meyer: A Renowned German Art Historian
Early Life and EducationJulius Meyer was a prominent German art historian known for his expertise in Italian and modern German art. He pursued historical studies at the University of Jena and other institutions, specializing in art history.
Museum and University Appointments
In 1870, Meyer became the director of the Leipzig Municipal Museum. In 1874, he was invited to Berlin to serve as the director of the National Gallery. The following year, he joined the Berlin University as a lecturer in art history.
