Early Life and Revolutionary Activities
Nikolai Nikolaevich Goloded was born in Stary Krivets, Russian Empire (present-day Bryansk Oblast, Russia), to a Belarusian peasant in 1891. After completing his education at the preparatory faculty of Gorodishche Agricultural Institute, Goloded embarked on his revolutionary career in 1917, leading soldier committees on the Southwestern Front.
Soviet Work and Party Involvement
In 1918-21, Goloded held various Soviet positions in the Novozybkov district. From 1921-24, he served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of Horki, then part of Gomel Governorate, and as head of the anti-banditry task force. In 1924, he became a member of the Belorussian Bureau of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (Bolsheviks).
Rise to Leadership in Belarus
Goloded's political prominence grew rapidly in the mid-1920s. From 1925-27, he served as Second Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belorussia (KP(b)B). In 1927, he was elevated to the post of Chairman of the Council of People's Commissars (Prime Minister) of the Belorussian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR). Goloded held this position for the next decade.
Participation in Party Congresses and Recognition
As a prominent party official, Goloded attended the 14th-17th Congresses of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks). At the 16th and 17th Congresses, he was elected as a candidate member of the Party's Central Committee. His contributions were recognized with the Order of Lenin.
Tragic Demise
However, Goloded's career ended abruptly. On June 14, 1937, he was arrested in Moscow and sent to Minsk for interrogation. During questioning at the NKVD headquarters in Minsk, Goloded jumped out of a fifth-story window, ending his life at the age of 46.
