Max Emilian Verstappen, born on September 30, 1997, in Hasselt, Belgium, is a Dutch racing driver. From an early age, he was surrounded by the world of motorsports. His father, Jos Verstappen, was a Formula One driver, and his mother, Sophie Kumpen, raced in karting. His uncle, Anthony Kumpen, competed in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series.
At age four, Max began his racing career behind the wheel of a Rotax Max Junior kart. He quickly emerged as a prodigy, winning the Belgian and Dutch karting championships. In 2009, he joined Pex Racing and triumphed in the KF5 class.

At the behest of his father, he also tested a Formula Renault car.
