Early Life and Career

Maxim Afinogenov was born on September 4, 1979, in Moscow, Russia. He began playing hockey at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks of youth hockey in the Soviet Union.

Professional Career

At the age of 18, Afinogenov made his professional debut for Avangard Omsk in the Russian Superleague. He quickly established himself as one of the most promising young players in Russia, and in 1999 he was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres with the 23rd overall pick.

Afinogenov spent the next eight seasons with the Sabres, becoming one of the team's most consistent scoring threats. In 2005-06, he led the team in scoring with 84 points in 78 games. He also helped the Sabres reach the Stanley Cup Finals in 1999 and 2006.

International Career

Afinogenov was a regular member of the Russian national ice hockey team, participating in several World Championships and Olympic Games. He won a bronze medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and a gold medal at the 2008 World Championships in Quebec City.

KHL Career

After spending eight seasons in the NHL, Afinogenov returned to Russia to play for Avangard Omsk in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) in 2007. He spent the next six seasons with Avangard, serving as team captain for several years.

Later Career

In 2013, Afinogenov signed with SKA Saint Petersburg in the KHL. He played two seasons for SKA before retiring from professional hockey in 2015.

Personal Life

Afinogenov is married with two children. He is a passionate fan of fast cars and owns a collection of high-performance vehicles. He is also known for his charity work, supporting several organizations that help children in need.
