Early Life and CareerMegan Tapper was born on March 18, 1994, in Kingston, Jamaica. Her athletic prowess emerged early on, as she secured first place in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2010 CARIFTA Games. That same year, she claimed the gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Junior Championships. Her international debut at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore saw her finish fourth.
Olympic Debut and Global Success
Tapper made her Olympic debut at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, advancing to the semifinals. She continued to represent Jamaica at major events, including the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London, where she reached the semifinals once again. In 2018, she competed at the Commonwealth Games, placing 7th in the finals. Tapper's resilient spirit was showcased at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar, where she made it to the finals in the 100-meter hurdles. Her success culminated in a bronze medal at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
2020 Tokyo Olympics
Tapper earned her spot on Team Jamaica for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Her personal best in the 100-meter hurdles, a time of 12.53 seconds set in Tokyo, propelled her to the finals. In the final, she crossed the finish line behind Puerto Rico's Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and American Kendra Harrison, securing the bronze medal. Tapper celebrated her accomplishment with her country's flag draped around her, expressing the infectious joy that has become synonymous with her athletic journey.
