Biography of Amy Cure
Cycling Career: Early SuccessIn 2012, Amy Cure emerged as a force in cycling, winning the first stage of the Tour of Chongming Island and claiming the overall victory. She followed up by earning silver medals in the team pursuit and scratch race at the 2012 Track Cycling World Championships.
Olympic Games and World Championships
Cure represented Australia at the 2012 London Olympics, placing fourth in the team pursuit. In 2015, she achieved a milestone by winning the gold medal in the team pursuit at the Track Cycling World Championships, setting a world record in the process. Despite setbacks with pneumonia and an accident at the 2016 Rio Olympics, Cure remained a valuable member of the Australian team.
Retirement and Personal Life
After the 2016 Games, Cure temporarily paused her track cycling career to focus on road racing. In 2017, she announced her engagement to fellow cyclist Rohan Dennis and her retirement from competitive cycling. The couple married in 2018 and welcomed their first child, a son, shortly after.
Tragic Accident
On December 31, 2023, Amy Cure tragically passed away after being struck by a car driven by her husband, Rohan Dennis. The circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation.
