Early Life and Military Service
Born in Jerusalem, Menachem Ben-Sasson served in the Israeli Defense Forces as part of the Nahal Brigade in Kibbutz Ein Tzurim and later in the artillery corps.
Academic Career
Education:- Earned degrees in Jewish history and Jewish philosophy from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1973-1975).
- Completed his doctorate in Jewish history and Islamic studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1976-1982).
- Postdoctoral studies at the University of Cambridge.
Professorship and Leadership:- Professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (since 1997).
- Rector of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1997-2001).
- Director of the Ben-Zvi Institute for the Study of Jewish Communities in the East (since 2004).
