Early Life and Education

Armenian painter and graphic artist, People's Artist of the Armenian SSR. Born in 1905, he studied at the Yerevan Artistic-Industrial Technical School under S. Aghajanyan and S. Arakelayan from 1922 to 1927. From 1927 to 1930, he attended the Moscow VKHUTEIN, and from 1930 to 1931, he studied at the Leningrad Academy of Arts under the tutelage of S. V. Gerasimov.

Artistic Style

His work encompasses lyrical landscapes, vibrant still-lifes, portraits, and landscape-genre paintings. His numerous easel graphic landscapes (drawings, watercolors, etchings, and linocuts) are imbued with a delicate mood. He also depicted revolutionary events in the Transcaucasus and the Great Patriotic War in a series of etchings.
