Biography of Michael Annett
Early Life and Hockey CareerMichael Annett was born in Des Moines, Iowa. He initially pursued a career in hockey and achieved considerable success in the sport. His talent caught the attention of talent scouts, and he joined the Illinois team before moving on to the United States Hockey League's Waterloo Black Hawks. However, by the end of 2005, Annett decided to leave hockey behind and pursue a career in racing.
Entry into Racing
Annett began his racing career at the age of 21, competing in the American Speed Association series. He found success in the ARCA Racing Series, securing two victories. His first win came on October 5, 2007, at Talladega Superspeedway, followed by a second win on February 9, 2008, at Daytona International Speedway.
Transition to NASCAR
Alongside his participation in the ARCA races, Annett also started racing in the NASCAR series. He made his debut in the series on June 20, in Milwaukee. Towards the end of 2008, Annett secured a contract with Germain Racing and began racing in the Nationwide Series. His debut in this capacity took place in the last race of the 2008 season at Homestead-Miami, where he finished 36th due to an accident.
Career Highlights and Challenges
In 2009, Annett competed for the title of Rookie of the Year under the sponsorship of Pilot Travel Centers and HYPE Energy. He achieved four top ten finishes and ended the season in 10th place, second only to Justin Allgaier. The following year, Annett continued to race for Germain but faced a challenging season, only achieving two top ten finishes in Iowa and Nashville. He finished the season in 13th place overall.
New Ventures and Legal Troubles
After leaving Germain, Annett joined Rusty Wallace Racing, driving for Toyota under the sponsorship of Pilot Travel Centers. However, the team closed, and Annett moved to Richard Petty Motosports. On February 6, 2011, Annett was involved in a car accident in Mooresville, North Carolina. Police reports indicated that his blood alcohol content was four times the legal limit. Annett resisted arrest and made a careless statement about texting while driving, which exacerbated the situation. Despite this incident, Annett continued to race and issued official apologies.
Current Career
Currently, Annett competes in the NASCAR Nationwide Series for Richard Petty Motorsports, driving a Ford Mustang. He continues to participate in races and strive for success in the racing world.
