Biography of Michael Corbett Shannon
Michael Corbett Shannon is an American film and theater actor. He was born in Lexington, Kentucky and is the grandson of renowned entomologist Raymond Corbett Shannon. His father, Donald S. Shannon, was a professor at DePaul University, and his mother, Geraldine Hine, was a lawyer.
Theater Career
Shannon's theater career began in Chicago, where he founded the Red Orchid Theatre. He has also collaborated with other major theater companies such as the Steppenwolf Theatre Company and the Northlight Theatre. In 2004, Shannon played the role of Peter Evans in the play "Bug," and later portrayed the same character in the film adaptation directed by William Friedkin in 2007, starring alongside Ashley Judd and Harry Connick Jr. He has also starred in plays written by his colleague at Steppenwolf, Tracy Letts, including "Killer Joe" and "Man From Nebraska."
Film Career
Shannon made his film debut in 1993 with a small role in "Groundhog Day." He went on to appear in films such as "Jesus' Son," "Pearl Harbor," "8 Mile," and "Vanilla Sky." In the comedy film "Kangaroo Jack," Shannon played the main antagonist, followed by a role in "Bad Boys II" and the lead role as hippie Larry Osterburg in "Grand Theft Parsons." In 2006, he portrayed the leader of a prison gang in "Let's Go to Prison."
Theater and Personal Life
In addition to his work in film, Shannon has regularly performed in theatrical productions in the West End. In 2008, he appeared in an Off-Broadway version of "The Little Flower of East Orange" directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman. Shannon has a close relationship with actress Kate Arrington, and they have a daughter named Sylvia, born in 2008.
