Biography of Michael Phelps
Early LifeMichael Phelps, an American swimmer, was born and raised in the Towson area, north of Baltimore. He is the youngest of three children. His mother, Deborah Sue "Debbie" (née Davisson), is a middle school principal, while his father, Michael Fred Phelps, played American football in high school. His parents divorced in 1994, and his father remarried in 2000. Phelps graduated from Towson High School in 2003.

Early Swimming Career
Phelps started swimming at the age of seven, partly influenced by his sister. When Phelps was in sixth grade, he was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). At the age of ten, he held national records for his age group and began training under coach Bob Bowman. Phelps achieved more success in his age group, and at the age of 15, he participated in the 2000 Olympic Games.

Olympic Achievements
At the Sydney Olympics in 2000, 15-year-old Phelps became the youngest American swimmer in 68 years. He competed in the 200-meter butterfly and finished fifth in the final. At the Athens Olympics in 2004, 19-year-old Phelps won eight medals, including six gold and two bronze, setting three Olympic and one world record. At the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Phelps won eight gold medals, breaking Mark Spitz's record and becoming the most decorated Olympian in history. At the London Olympics in 2012, Phelps surpassed Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina's record of 18 Olympic medals, winning a total of 22 medals. At the Rio Olympics in 2016, Phelps won five gold medals, becoming the oldest swimmer to win an individual gold medal at the age of 31.

Other Achievements
Phelps has also achieved success in World Championships, winning numerous gold medals and setting world records. He is a 50-time champion in individual and relay events at the US Championships and has been recognized as the best swimmer in the world multiple times.

Personal Life
Phelps follows a strict diet and has been known for his high calorie intake. He has been ranked as one of the most influential people of the 21st century by GQ magazine. In his hometown of Baltimore, a street was named after him in 2004. Phelps has been sponsored by Speedo and has participated in their advertising campaigns. He is married to model Nicole Johnson, and they have two children together. Phelps has expressed his happiness in his personal life and the joy of being a father.
