Biography of Mikhail Veller

Mikhail Veller is a Russian writer born in a family of doctors in Kamianets-Podilskyi. His mother, Sulit Efimovna Rekhtman, was a gynecologist, and his father, Iosif Aleksandrovich Veller, served in the Soviet military as a doctor. Mikhail's grandfather, Alexander Abramovich Veller, was a veterinarian and professor. Due to his family's frequent relocations, Mikhail changed schools often during his childhood.

In 1966, he graduated with a gold medal from school number 3 in Mogilev and enrolled in the Russian Philology department at the Leningrad University. During his university years, he participated in student construction brigades and traveled extensively.

After completing his university education, Mikhail served in the army as an officer in an artillery unit. He later worked as a teacher and educator at a rural school in Leningrad Oblast. He also worked as a construction worker and a logger in different regions of Russia.

In 1974, Mikhail worked at the State Museum of the History of Religion and Atheism in Kazan Cathedral in Leningrad. He later became a correspondent for a factory newspaper and held various positions in the cultural and information departments.

Throughout his career, Mikhail has written numerous short stories and novels. His first collection of stories, titled "I Want to Be a Janitor," was published in 1983. He gained recognition as a writer and received recommendations for membership in the Union of Writers of the USSR.

In the following years, Mikhail continued to publish books, including "The Adventures of Major Zvyagin" and "Legends of Nevsky Prospekt." He also wrote philosophical works, such as "All About Life" and "Cassandra," where he developed his own theories and ideas.

From 2006 to 2014, Mikhail hosted a weekly radio show called "Let's Talk with Mikhail Veller" on Radio Russia. He also had his own show, "Just Think," on Echo of Moscow radio from 2015 to 2017.

Mikhail Veller has received several awards and honors for his contributions to literature. In 2008, he was awarded the Order of the White Star, 4th Class, by the President of Estonia. He continues to write and publish books, as well as maintain a YouTube channel where he shares literary and political videos.

Mikhail is married to Anna Agriomati, and they have a daughter named Valentina. He also has a brother, Sergey, who is a doctor and resides in New York.
