Early Career and Collaborations

Initially working under the guidance of renowned architect Eduard Cuypers, de Klerk joined forces with fellow architects Johan van der Mey and Piet Kramer to co-found the Amsterdam School. Their collaboration culminated in the design of the Scheepvaarthuis (Shipping House) in 1912, a monumental cooperative building for Dutch shipping companies.

Notable Projects

Despite de Klerk's prolific design work, only a limited number of his buildings were constructed. Among his most celebrated creations is the Het Schip (The Ship) housing complex in Amsterdam's Spaarndammerbuurt neighborhood. Beyond the city limits, he collaborated with Kramer and van der Mey on the De Bijenkorf department store in The Hague.
