Early Life and Education

Michele Di Ruberto was born on August 28, 1934, in Pietra Montecorvino, Italy. He was ordained a priest on September 29, 1957, by Domenico Vendola, Bishop of Lucera. Di Ruberto went on to study at the Pontifical Lateran University and the University of Naples.

Career in the Roman Curia

In 1969, Di Ruberto entered the service of the Roman Curia, joining the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. In 1984, he became responsible for validating miracles attributed to candidates for canonization and was later appointed Undersecretary of the Congregation in 1993.

Archbishop and Secretary of the Congregation

On May 5, 2007, Di Ruberto was appointed Secretary of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints and titular Archbishop of Biccari by Pope Benedict XVI. He succeeded Archbishop Edward Nowak as Secretary. Di Ruberto received his episcopal ordination on June 30, 2007, from Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Cardinal José Saraiva Martins, and Bishop Francesco Dzerrillo.

Retirement

On December 29, 2010, Di Ruberto retired as Secretary of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. He was succeeded by Marcello Bartolucci.
