Biography of Michelle Danielle Collins
Michelle Danielle Collins, born on May 28, 1963, is a Welsh actress best known for her work in BBC soap operas such as "EastEnders," "Sunburn," and "Two Thousand Acres of Sky." She was born in Hackney to an English father and a Welsh mother. Michelle and her older sister were raised by their mother.
Early Career
From the age of fourteen, Michelle studied at the Royal Court Activists and the youth theater group Cockpit. She later attended Kingsway Princeton College, where she actively studied theater and drama. After her exams, Michelle landed a role in a production of Bulgakov's "The Crimson Island" at The Gate theater, directed by Lou Stein. She then switched gears and appeared in the music video for Squeeze's "Up The Junction." Following this, she joined Mary Wilson and her group The Wilsations as a backing vocalist, touring the country for eighteen months and working with artists such as Mark Almond, Level 42, Altered Images, Kid Creole, and The Coconuts. The group disbanded in 1982, and Michelle returned to acting.
Television and Film Career
Michelle made her television debut in the BBC series "Morgan's Boy" with Gary Oldman. She then appeared in two episodes of the comedy series "Running Wild," playing the daughter of Ray Brooks' character, as well as the drama series "The Bill," the Michael Caton-Jones directed "Lucky Sunil" for "Screen Two," and the BBC play "Pressures." She also had roles in three films - "Personal Services," "Empire State," and "Hidden City."
In 1985, Michelle landed a role in an episode of the fourth season of the BBC series "Bergerak." In 1988, while working on "Pressures," she caught the attention of "EastEnders" producer Julia Smith, who invited her to audition for the role of Cindy. Michelle's performance was so impressive that her character stayed on the show for ten years, from 1988 to 1998. During breaks from filming "EastEnders," she also appeared in another BBC project called "Real Women" with Pauline Quirke and Frances Barber. Many mistakenly believe that Michelle appeared in the popular comedy show "Knowing Me, Knowing You" with Alan Partridge in 1994, but that was just a namesake.
After leaving "EastEnders" in 1998, Michelle went on to play various roles in other TV series. She also appeared in the West End musical "Daddy Cool" and had a cameo in the short film "Broken." In 2009, she auditioned for a role in "Desperate Housewives" but did not join the show. Michelle has expressed a desire to return to "EastEnders," although it is unlikely as her character was killed off in 1998.
