Biography of Mick Fanning
Early LifeMick Fanning, also known as "White Lightning," was born on June 13, 1981, in Penrith, New South Wales, Australia. He started surfing at the age of 5 in Ballina, a coastal town in New South Wales. However, it wasn't until he moved to Tweed Heads at the age of 12 that he fully pursued surfing. Growing up alongside fellow professional surfers Joel Parkinson and Nat West, Fanning had the opportunity to surf on the border of Queensland, which allowed him to develop his skills and make a name for himself.

Tragedy and Resilience
In 1998, Fanning's surfing career was temporarily put on hold after a car accident took the lives of his brother Sean and fellow surfer Joel Green. Despite the devastating loss, Fanning remained committed to his dream and continued to pursue his passion. He experienced a breakthrough in 2001 when he won the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach, one of Australia's most prestigious surfing competitions.

Professional Career
Fanning's success continued as he won the Billabong Pro at Jeffrey's Bay in 2002, earning him the title of "Rookie of the Year." He also qualified for the World Qualifying Series (WQS), a prestigious surfing competition. In 2004, Fanning suffered a torn hamstring, but he underwent surgery and made an incredible comeback to the top ranks of the surfing world.

In 2007, Fanning celebrated his six-year tenure on the World Tour ASP and his nine-year tenure on the ASP WQS. That same year, he became the ASP World Champion after winning the Quiksilver Pro and the Santa Catarina Pro. In 2008, Fanning suffered a groin injury but managed to finish the season in 8th place.

In 2009, Fanning reclaimed the title of ASP World Champion by winning the famous Pipeline surf break on the North Shore of Oahu. Despite being eliminated by his fellow Australian Dean Morrison in the fourth round, Fanning had accumulated enough points in the previous rounds to secure the victory.
