Miguel Capuccini: Uruguayan Champion of the First World Cup
Early CareerMiguel Capuccini began his football career at Montevideo Wanderers. In 1927, he made his debut for the Uruguayan national team in a friendly match against Argentina. Uruguay lost the match in Montevideo by a narrow 1-0 scoreline.
Copa América Debut
Capuccini established himself as Uruguay's starting goalkeeper at the 1927 Copa América in Peru. Representing Wanderers, he played every match and kept clean sheets in victories against Peru (4-0) and Bolivia (9-0). Argentina emerged as the champions, but Capuccini played a key role in Uruguay's second-place finish.
World Cup Triumph
In December 1927, Capuccini played his final game for Uruguay in a friendly victory over Chile in Santiago (3-2). Despite being a backup goalkeeper, he was named to Uruguay's squad for the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930. Though he did not play in any matches, Capuccini shared in Uruguay's triumph as world champions.
Club Success
By the time of the World Cup, Capuccini had joined Peñarol. He won the Uruguayan Championship with Peñarol in 1929.
