In the 1979/80 season, Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga title after six years, with Rummenigge claiming the league scoring title with 26 goals. The following season, he repeated his scoring feat, earning him two consecutive Ballon d'Or awards.

At the age of 29, Rummenigge moved to Inter Milan but failed to win any major trophies. He ended his playing career in Switzerland with "Servette," where he was recognized as the league's top scorer and best foreign player.
