Biography of Michel Salgado

Michel Salgado is a former Spanish football player and one of the best right-backs of the Real Madrid football club. He was known for his uncompromising defending and his ability to join the attack on the right flank. Many predicted that Salgado would become the captain of the team due to his calm and confident playing style.

Salgado made his debut for the Spanish national team in 1998, in a qualifying match for EURO 2000 against Cyprus, which Spain lost 2-3. Since then, he has regularly been called up to represent his country. He played in 4 matches in the final stage of the European Championship but did not participate in the 2002 World Cup due to his form not meeting the expectations of coach Jose Antonio Camacho.

Under coach Inaki Saez, Salgado became a key player for the Spanish national team once again. However, a knee injury prevented him from representing his country in EURO 2004.

Salgado was born in As Neves in 1975. He started his football career in the youth academy of Celta Vigo and made his debut for the first team in the 1994/95 season. He was loaned to Salamanca in the 1996/97 season but returned to Vigo and became a regular starter.

In 1999, after two impressive seasons with Celta Vigo, Salgado caught the attention of top clubs in Spain. As a result, he transferred to Real Madrid. In his first season with the "Royal Club," Salgado won the UEFA Champions League, defeating Valencia in the final. The following year, he became the champion of Spain, and in the 2001/02 season, Salgado once again won the Champions League, with Real Madrid defeating Bayer Leverkusen in the final.

In the next campaign, Salgado only missed three matches as Real Madrid won the Spanish championship. He performed exceptionally well in all 15 matches of the Champions League, where his club was only eliminated by Juventus in the semi-finals.

In the 2003/04 season, Salgado missed three games in La Liga but was unable to help his team retain the league title or win the Copa del Rey final. However, he scored his first goal in three years, finding the net against Sevilla in March.
