Biography of Mikhail Malyshov

The Monster

The city was in turmoil. The city was outraged. It seemed that a malicious monster had emerged in the Perm region, feeding on human flesh. Mikhail Malyshov was arrested in January of last year. He was a murderer. Any death does not reflect well on a person, but this... Severed heads, torso without arms and legs, ripped open abdomens, severed body parts. Malyshov was charged with two episodes. However, the investigation believes that there are many more victims. Few could have predicted that a tragedy would unfold in the apartment at 128 Marshal Rybalko Street, a tragedy that even experienced police officers still shudder to talk about. - A terrible apartment, - recalls Senior Police Officer Alexei Filippov of the Kirov Police Department in Perm. - It all started with a dismembered body of a man found in one of the garages. The body was torn apart by stray dogs. A preliminary examination was conducted at the scene. The results were shocking. "Fragments of tissues were found on the remains, which were cut with a sharp object, presumably a knife. Part of the right thigh and leg were severed. The missing tissues were not found." In forensic science, it happens that individual body parts are not always found. In such cases, anything can be assumed, including cannibalism. It became clear that a butcher had meticulously worked on the body. The investigators began to search for the suspect, but they failed to quickly catch the cannibal. According to the neighbors' recollections, Misha grew up as an ordinary boy, perhaps slightly more vulnerable than other children. His parents often came home drunk and caused scandals. He suffered greatly, and when he was angry with someone, he would take out his anger on the family pets. One day, he cut off the tail of a neighbor's cat in the courtyard. When the neighbors came to confront his parents, the mother of the animal abuser said from the doorway, "So what! Misha is angry at his father. That's why he decided to take out his anger on this creature." His mother always stood up for him, sternly dealing with the bullies. He finished eight grades with unsatisfactory behavior. In three years, Mikhail changed three schools. He didn't go to work. And no one hired him. Over time, his behavior did not change. Since 1990, he had been registered with the juvenile affairs inspectorate for acts of violence against animals. He admitted to the local police officer that he consumed the meat of animals. But the law enforcement officer did not attach any importance to this, considering the animal abuser's stories to be childish fantasies. And in vain. Attics and basements became Misha's favorite places to spend his leisure time. He dreamed of working at a meat plant, where, as he believed, he could eat to his heart's content. His family did not spoil him with delicacies, although alcohol was abundant. Malyshov's independent life went awry. He scraped by with odd jobs. Visitors frequented his apartment: men with signs of perpetual hangover and women worn down by life. The apartment turned into a den, where one drinking session followed another. And one day, the thought came to him: why buy food when it comes to your home for free? Six months after the mysterious murder of a man, the investigators discovered a dismembered body of a woman in the Kama River. When the investigators pulled out the disfigured fragments from the river for examination, trying to reconstruct the whole, to everyone's astonishment, they found extra parts that belonged to the previously murdered man. The theory of a mentally unstable person who fed on human flesh was confirmed. Based on their sources, the investigators received information about the apartment on Rybalko Street. The case gained momentum, and soon the detectives came close to the suspect. It was decided to conduct a search in Malyshov's apartment. - The residents of the building, - says senior police officer Alexei Filippov, - often heard heart-rending screams. However, no one called the police. The owner did not open the metal door. It had to be forced open. What they saw shocked everyone. The kitchen had a large number of cutting boards, an axe, knives... There was a pot with remnants of soup on the stove. The freezer was filled with human meat, chopped into small pieces. The sight was horrifying. The police officers, who had seen dozens of corpses in their lifetime, were gulping Valerian. Malyshov's girlfriend, Inna Podserdtseva, was the first to be questioned. A mask of horror seemed frozen on her face. From her testimonies: - He cut off my ear and ordered me not to leave the house. He said, "If you don't listen to me, you'll end up in the refrigerator." He made me grind the meat, turning it into minced meat. I was terrified, thinking that the same fate awaited me. I was afraid to run away. During the interrogation, Malyshov remained unaffected. - How did the murder happen? - It was simple. We drank, argued... I hit him with an axe. I would calm down when the blood washed off my hands. Then I would do everything in the bathroom. - What did you do with the bodies? - I used the soft parts to fry cutlets. The rest was discarded. The maniac kept a notebook where he meticulously recorded recipes of his culinary art. On the margins, there was a note, underlined in red pencil: "In the world, there is a king, this king is ruthless, hunger is his name." Malyshov was kept in solitary confinement until the trial. He would stare at one point for hours on end. The cannibal asked for nothing and showed no interest, maintaining complete indifference. In court, curses were hurled at the maniac, but he seemed to be oblivious to it all. The court sentenced Malyshov to the highest punishment. It is presumed that he will receive a life sentence. Many wondered: is Malyshov mentally healthy? The court found the cannibal to be fully sane. And it's understandable. The law enforcement agencies cannot provide a 100% guarantee that the cannibal will not be released after receiving psychiatric treatment. And who wants to be the maniac's dinner?
