Early Life and Amateur Career

At just three years old, Mike Alessi first sat on a motorcycle. His natural talent shone through as he quickly rose through the amateur ranks. By age six, he had achieved his first major victory at the National Championship in Nashville, Tennessee. Over the next ten years of racing, Alessi matched James Stewart's record of 11 amateur national championships.

Professional Debut: Entering the Motocross and Supercross Scene

Alessi turned professional in 2004 at the age of 16. He made his debut in the 250cc class of motocross, but his initial race was not one of his best. After finishing 13th overall, he showed his potential by finishing third in Delmont, Pennsylvania, behind only Ricky Carmichael and Kevin Windham.

2005: A Year of Success and Setback

In 2005, Alessi competed in his first full professional season. He had four podium finishes and two victories, but a crash in San Bernardino, California, resulted in a suspension from the American Motorcyclist Association.

Supercross and Transition to 450/Premier Class

In 2006, Alessi made his Supercross debut. Despite a shaky start, he consistently finished in the top five in the final five races, securing fourth place in the Eastern Regional Championship. In 2007, Alessi announced his move to the 450/Premier class. Although some questioned his decision, he proved his worth by finishing second in the rookie class, with six top-three finishes.

Injuries and Setbacks

The 2008 season ended prematurely for Alessi in both Supercross and Motocross. He broke his collarbone during Supercross preparation and later crashed in July, suffering multiple injuries including broken scapulas, ribs, a punctured lung, and a severe concussion.

2009: Victory and Another Injury

In 2009, Alessi faced off against his rival Ryan Villopoto. However, Villopoto injured his knee, giving Alessi an opportunity to win the first two rounds. Alessi himself suffered a knee injury in the fourth round, forcing him to miss the next race. He returned in the fifth round, only to crash out of the first moto.

2010-2013: Inconsistent Results and Team Suspension

2010 was a relatively injury-free year for Alessi, but his performance declined. In 2011 and 2012, he had consistent but unspectacular results. In 2013, Alessi's team was suspended after two incidents: his brother Jeff Alessi was accused of laser-pointing Villopoto, and team manager Tony Alessi got into an altercation with Steve Matthes.
