Biography of Mike Einziger
Mike Einziger, born on June 21, 1976, in Los Angeles, California, is a musician, Grammy award winner, songwriter, and guitarist for the alternative rock band 'Incubus'. He is known for his innovation in using 'pedalboard guitars' during concerts. In 2002, 'Total Guitar' ranked Mike 41st in the '100 greatest guitarists of all time' list.
Formation of Incubus
In 1991, Mike Einziger founded the band 'Incubus' with his classmates Brandon Boyd, Jose Pasillas II, and Alex Katunich. Since then, 'Incubus' has sold over 13 million albums worldwide and received nominations for Grammy Awards, MTV Music Awards, American Music Awards, mtvU Woodie Award, and Billboard Music Awards.
Time Lapse Consortium and Other Projects
In 2003, Mike Einziger launched his own project called 'Time Lapse Consortium', featuring Jose Pasillas II from 'Incubus', former 'Incubus' bassist Ben Kenney, Neil Evans from 'Soulive', and Suzie Katayama. Their debut performance took place at 'The Roxy' in Los Angeles, followed by a show at the 'Knitting Factory' in New York.
In 2003, Einziger contributed to Ziggy Marley's solo album 'Dragonfly', collaborating with his 'Incubus' bandmate Chris Kilmore, as well as Flea and John Frusciante from 'Red Hot Chili Peppers'. He also composed the soundtrack for the popular video game 'Halo 2' and produced the debut album 'Red Rover' for the band 'Agent Sparks' in 2006.
Additionally, Einziger assisted in the release of Jason Schwartzman's first album in 2007, which was recorded at Einziger's home studio in Malibu, California (Casa Chica).
Solo Projects and Other Interests
In 2007, Einziger underwent wrist surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome, which forced him to temporarily leave the band and stop playing instruments. During this period, he explored other interests, including composing an orchestral piece titled 'End.'vacuum', which challenged the boundaries of human understanding.
'End.'vacuum' is a composition featuring 12 lowered-tuned electric guitars and 12 string instruments, incorporating the principle of glissando. Einziger's work in this piece plays with time and has been compared to the works of John Adams, but with his unique vision and character.
Musical Instruments and Personal Life
In terms of musical instruments, Mike Einziger plays several instruments besides the guitar, including piano, mellotron, analog and tape synthesizers, and others he has used in the recording of albums for 'Incubus' and other artists.
Regarding his personal life, Einziger has been romantically involved with actress Cameron Richardson and model Lily Aldridge. Currently, he is single.
