Biography of Mike Gordon
Early Life and CareerMike Gordon, an American rock musician, bassist, and vocalist, was born on June 3, 1965, in Sudbury, Massachusetts. His parents were Jewish immigrants. Gordon is best known for his involvement in the rock band "Phish" as the bassist and vocalist. He is also proficient in playing the banjo, piano, guitar, harmonica, and drums. In 1983, Gordon met Trey Anastasio, Jon Fishman, and Jeff Holdsworth at the University of Vermont, and together they formed the band "Phish."

Phish and Musical Style
Gordon contributed his vocals and songwriting skills to the band, complementing Anastasio's guitar playing and voice. He authored seventeen songs for "Phish" and co-authored twenty-two. The band gained recognition for their unique performances, combining elements from various genres and constantly experimenting with song arrangements. Although they received limited radio and MTV airplay, their fan base spread through word-of-mouth, primarily through the "Phish.net" community.

Other Ventures
While being part of "Phish," Gordon took on various roles within the band. He initially managed public relations and engaged with fans through correspondence on behalf of the fan club. Gordon published a book of whimsical stories titled "Mike's Corner" in 1997. He also explored other artistic endeavors, releasing the documentary film "The Tracking" about "Phish" in 1994, the widescreen film "Outside Out" in 2000, and the documentary film "Rising Low" in 2002.

In addition to his work with "Phish," Gordon collaborated with other musicians on different projects. He collaborated with Jamie Masefield in the group "Grappa Boom" and with Doug Perkins in "Smokin' Grass." In 2002, Gordon released an acoustic album in collaboration with Leo Kottke. His solo album "Inside In" was based on excerpts from the film "Outside Out." He continued to work on various musical projects, including a second album with Kottke titled "Sixty Six Steps" and a series of live performances with the alternative jazz ensemble "the Benevento-Russo Duo."
