Early Life and Education
Mike Hessman was born on March 5, 1978, in Fountain Valley, California. His love for baseball began at a young age, and he excelled in various baseball tournaments throughout his childhood.
High School Career
In 1996, while attending Mater Dei High School, Hessman caught the attention of the Atlanta Braves organization. He had a highly successful high school career, showcasing his exceptional baseball skills.
Early Professional Career
After graduating high school, Hessman spent eight years in the minor leagues before making his Major League debut on August 22, 2003, with the Braves.
Detroit Tigers' Acquisition
In January 2005, Hessman signed a contract with the Detroit Tigers. He played for the Toledo Mud Hens, the Tigers' Triple-A team, for one season before being promoted to the Major League squad.
Success with the Mud Hens
In 2007, Hessman played exceptionally well for the Mud Hens, demonstrating his growing potential. He was named the International League Most Valuable Player (MVP) on August 28, 2007.
