Mike Smith was an English singer and music producer. Born on December 6, 1943, in Edmonton, North London, Mike was the only child of George and Mod Smith. At the age of five, his parents enrolled him in piano lessons. Young Smith showed exceptional talent and impressed those around him with his advanced abilities. Later, Mike began taking classical piano lessons, and at the age of thirteen, he successfully passed the entrance exams for Trinity Music College in London.
Alongside his musical pursuits, Mike Smith was also interested in sports, particularly football. He was a member of the St. George Boys Club, where he first met Dave Clark, his future colleague. At seventeen, Mike invited Clark to join their musical collective as a vocalist. Eventually, the band "Dave Clark Five" was formed, including members Denis Payton and guitarist Danny Davidson.
At the age of eighteen, the talented Mike Smith recorded his debut song, "I Knew It All the Time," which quickly became a hit. In the 1960s, the Dave Clark Five was a highly popular group with a large fan base. However, due to various reasons, the band disbanded in 1970.
After the group's breakup, Mike Smith continued to collaborate with Clark, fulfilling their contractual obligations. They released several popular hits, such as "Rub It In," "Sweet City Woman," and "Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye)." In 1973, the musicians ceased working together. During the following years, Mike Smith found success in the advertising industry and only returned to his music career in the late 1990s. Surprisingly, his fan base had not diminished, and his creativity remained captivating.
In August 2002, the group held a charity concert to benefit children who had suffered from adult violence. The event raised a substantial amount of $100,000. Mike Smith's life was filled with extraordinary experiences, and his music continued to bring joy to many of his fans.
The musician passed away on February 26, 2008, at the age of 64, due to pneumonia.
