A Million-Dollar Mistake
The unemployed New Jersey resident and now a multimillionaire is searching for the man who returned Mike's forgotten winning ticket to a cashier. Speaking at a press conference organized by the Mega Millions lottery, Wayerski revealed that he had purchased the tickets at a Quick Check store in Phillipsburg, near the Pennsylvania border, but became so "absorbed" in his phone that he left empty-handed.
A Guardian Angel Emerges
Someone found the missing tickets and returned them to the cashier for safekeeping. Mike returned to the store the next day and was able to verify that the found tickets belonged to him. Lottery officials acknowledged that if the "good Samaritan" had not acted with such integrity and claimed the tickets for themselves, the $273 million prize would have been theirs.
A Heartfelt Expression of Gratitude
"I'm looking for the guy who brought my tickets back," Wayerski said. "I'm going to give him something, but I'm going to wait until I meet him to figure out what it's going to be." "I'm just so thankful that I had honest people find these tickets that I managed to drop."

A Moment of Triumph
A longtime lottery player, Wayerski was at home when he matched the winning numbers and realized he had hit the jackpot. Unable to contain his disbelief, he ventured out in the midst of a snowstorm to the store where his winnings were confirmed. "I couldn't believe that after all these years, my biggest win ever was a couple of bucks, and the next thing I know, I won the big one," he said. "I've been on the downside, and now I'm on the upside. I don't know if there's an upside to this."
