Early Life and Education
Konstantin Tikhonovich Salnikovwas born in Odessa, the grandson of renowned architect A.K. Krasovsky. He received his secondary education at the 1st Moscow Classical Gymnasium and went on to pursue higher education at the Imperial Institute of Civil Engineers Emperor Nicholas I.
Military Service and Academic Career
After completing his military obligation in the Leib-Guard Jaeger Regiment, Salnikov joined the Institute of Civil Engineers as a Junior Assistant Inspector in 1900. He was subsequently appointed as an Instructor of Architectural Drawing in 1903 and later became a Lecturer in Architectural Orders and History of Architecture in 1910. In 1913, he was elevated to the position of Senior Assistant Inspector.
Salnikov was twice sent abroad on missions: once to study Etruscan monuments and once to examine ecclesiastical Byzantine architecture. Concurrently with his academic endeavors, he engaged in practical construction work and pursued his interest in the study of Russian art, particularly pre-Petrine monuments.
Research and Recognition
In 1909, Salnikov was awarded half of the Countess P.S. Uvarova Prize for his essay on Moscow architecture, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of Count A.S. Uvarova's passing. His contributions were further acknowledged with the Order of Saint Anna, 2nd Class, in 1913, and the Order of Saint Vladimir, 4th Class, in 1916.
Later Years
During the Soviet era, Salnikov dedicated himself to designing industrial buildings.
