Soviet Diplomat and Envoy
Career in the Foreign MinistryMikhail Klimov was a Soviet diplomat who served as an Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Envoy of the Second Class. He joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) in 1929. From 1937 to 1940, he worked at the USSR Foreign Ministry (NKID) as the First Secretary of the Soviet Legation in Latvia. During World War II, from 1941 to 1944, he was an advisor at the Soviet diplomatic mission in Sweden.
After the war, from 1944 to 1947, Klimov served as Deputy Head of the Foreign Ministry's 5th European Department (later renamed the 5th European Division of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs). He became the Head of the 5th European Department from 1947 to 1948.
Diplomatic Assignments
In 1948, Klimov was appointed Counselor at the Soviet Embassy in the Netherlands. The following year, he became the Soviet Chargé d'Affaires in the Netherlands. He served as the USSR's Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Envoy to Denmark from 1950 to 1954. In 1956, he became an advisor at the USSR Foreign Ministry's Department of Southeast Asian Countries.
Personal Life
Klimov was married to Revekka Naumovna Vetrova (1910-1992). They had three daughters: Dolores Mikhaylovna Klimova (born 1939), Lyubov Mikhaylovna Bokuchuva (born 1944), and Valentina Mikhaylovna Kazakova (born 1936).
Legacy
Mikhail Klimov was buried at the Kuntsevo Cemetery in Moscow. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour in 1945 and the Order of the Red Star in 1944.
