Miks Zvirbulis: An Accomplished Cinematographer
Born on November 9, 1937, in Riga, Miks Zvirbulis was a renowned Soviet and Latvian cinematographer. He hailed from an artistic family, with his father being the sculptor Egons Zvirbulis and his mother the artist A. Zvirbule.
Education and Career
After completing his secondary education in Riga, Zvirbulis pursued his passion for cinematography at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow, graduating in 1961. He began his career as an operator-photographer at the Riga Film Studio, where he worked from 1960 to 1991.
Zvirbulis made his debut as a cinematographer in Gunars Piesis' documentary film "Salacgriva." Throughout his career, he collaborated with notable directors and contributed to numerous films. From 1992 onwards, he shifted his focus to television and documentary filmmaking.
Recognition and Affiliations
Zvirbulis' artistry earned him recognition and accolades. In 1970, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Latvian SSR. He was also a member of the Latvian Society of Cinematographers and the European Federation of Directors and Audiovisual Writers (2004).
