Biography of Radomir Vasilevsky

Radomir Vasilevsky was a Soviet and Ukrainian cinematographer and film director. He was born on September 27, 1930, in Chelyabinsk, Russia.

Early Life and Education

Vasilevsky completed his studies at the cinematography faculty of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in 1954. He trained under the supervision of Professor V.I. Volchek.

Career

After graduating, Vasilevsky began working as a cinematographer and director at the Odessa Film Studio in 1955. He gained recognition for his work as a cinematographer on the film "Spring on Zarechnaya Street." It was during the production of this film that Vasilevsky met and later married actress Nina Ivanova.

In 1964, Vasilevsky made his directorial debut with the film "The Wedding Day." He continued to direct several other films, including "The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed" and "The Steppe." Vasilevsky's contributions to Ukrainian cinema earned him the title of Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR in 1973.

Personal Life

Vasilevsky was married three times. His first marriage was to Lilia Nikitichna Vasilevskaya, with whom he had a daughter named Tatiana, born in 1952. He later married actress Nina Ivanova. After their divorce, Vasilevsky married Tatiana Viktorovna Poddubnaya, and they have a daughter named Elena, born in 1978.

Despite his success in the film industry, Vasilevsky's personal life remained tumultuous, with multiple marriages and divorces. However, his talent and contributions to Ukrainian cinema will always be remembered.
