Biography of Millvina Dean
Millvina Dean, born on February 2, 1912, in London, England, was the youngest passenger aboard the Titanic. She was the last survivor of the tragic sinking of the Titanic on April 15, 1912, at the age of two and a half months. As a result, she had no personal memories of the tragedy. Millvina was born to Bertram Frank Dean and Georgette Eva Light. She also had a brother named Bertram Vere Dean (1910-1992).
Journey on the Titanic
In April 12, 1912, Millvina boarded the Titanic with her family. Two days later, the Titanic collided with an iceberg. Her father, Bertram Dean, led the family to the deck and placed them in lifeboat number 10 before remaining on board himself. Millvina, along with her mother and brother, were rescued, but her father perished, and his body was never found. Millvina's mother decided to return to England with her children rather than staying in Canada.
Post-Titanic Life
After completing her schooling, Millvina worked as a cartographer, secretary, and assistant in a tobacco firm. Her mother passed away on September 16, 1975, at the age of 96, and her brother on April 14, 1992, on the 80th anniversary of the Titanic's sinking. With the death of Barbara West Dainton in October 2007, Millvina became the last surviving passenger of the Titanic.
In her later years, Millvina lived in England and gradually sold various family heirlooms associated with the legendary liner to cover her medical expenses and private care. She passed away on May 31, 2009, at the age of 97, in a nursing home in Ashurst, Hampshire, on the 98th anniversary of the Titanic's launch.
