Milojko Spajić: A Statesman on a Mission

Early Life and Education

Milojko Spajić was born in 1988 in Pljevlja, Yugoslavia, to a Serbian family. After completing his gymnasium studies at Gymnasium Pljevlja, Spajić ventured beyond his homeland to pursue higher education.

In Japan, Spajić embarked on a remarkable journey at Osaka University, where he delved into econometrics in the Japanese language as a Japanese government scholarship recipient. His academic pursuits continued through an exchange program at Tsinghua University in China. Spajić later obtained his master's degree from HEC Paris Business School in France, where he was once again awarded a scholarship.

International Experience

Before returning to Montenegro, Spajić honed his skills in the financial capitals of the world. From 2020 until his return home that summer, he was employed at Goldman Sachs. He also had a stint with a venture capital firm in Singapore.

Political Career

Ministerial Role

Spajić entered the political arena in 2020 as a member of Zdravko Krivokapić's expert team during the parliamentary elections. Amidst a religious crisis, he advocated for the interests of the Serbian Orthodox Church and Montenegrin Serbs in the United States.

On November 5, 2020, Spajić was appointed Minister of Finance and Social Welfare. He served in this capacity until April 28, 2022, when the government resigned.

Party Formation and Parliamentary Success

On June 26, 2022, Spajić and Jakov Milatović founded the "Europe Now!" party. Their party emerged victorious in the 2023 parliamentary elections.

Prime Ministership

On August 10, 2023, Spajić was tasked by President Jakov Milatović with forming a government. On October 31, the Montenegrin Parliament approved Spajić's cabinet, with 46 votes in favor, 19 against, and 1 abstention.

Political Positions

Foreign Policy

Spajić is an ardent supporter of Montenegro's accession to the European Union but believes that Western politicians "are not interested in Montenegro." Regarding NATO membership, he maintains that while joining was a "positive step" for Montenegro, he would oppose the deployment of Montenegrin troops to the Baltic states.

Spajić unequivocally condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine, calling it an aggression. He supports sanctions on Russia but believes they will only "make Moscow even more aggressive." Spajić opposes proposals for Montenegro to withdraw recognition of Kosovo's independence, stating that he considers it "a thing of the past." He advocates for closer relations between Montenegro and Serbia.
