Biography of Mindy Kaling
Mindy Kaling, an American actress of Indian descent, was born on June 24, 1979, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. She grew up and attended the private Buckingham Browne & Nichols school. Mindy then enrolled at Dartmouth College, where she focused on her creative pursuits, primarily studying acting and writing. She joined an improvisational comedy group called 'The Dog Day Players,' wrote sketches for the a cappella group 'The Rockapella' at Brown University, and created her own comic strip, 'Badly Drawn Girl,' for the college.

After graduating from Dartmouth, Kaling worked as a producer's assistant and supplemented her income by babysitting. Inspired by the rapid rise of actors Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, Kaling and her former college roommate, Brenda Withers, wrote a satirical play called 'Matt & Ben.' The play tells the story of two friends, Oscar-winning actors, who attempt to write a screenplay adaptation of J. D. Salinger's novel 'The Catcher in the Rye.' Kaling portrayed Ben Affleck, finding the experience both funny and strange, and the play was included in 'Time' magazine's top ten theatrical events of the year.

During the run of 'Matt & Ben,' impressed director Greg Daniels noticed Kaling and hired her as a writer for the television series 'The Office.' Soon, she found herself in front of the camera, becoming a regular cast member from the episode 'Diversity Day' as the talkative and emotionally charged Kelly. Thanks to her success on 'The Office,' Kaling appeared in the comedy film 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin' as Paul Rudd's ex-girlfriend and the television series 'Curb Your Enthusiasm.'
After a small role as a restaurant owner in the comedy film 'License to Wed,' Mindy appeared in the dramedy 'Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian,' the family fantasy film 'Despicable Me,' where she provided voiceover for a character, and several other projects. In addition to her acting career, Kaling is one of the executive producers and authors of multiple episodes of 'The Office,' which has earned her Emmy awards.
