Biography of Andrey Danilko
Andrey Danilko, better known as Verka Serduchka, is a Ukrainian comedian and actor. He has become a symbol of Ukraine, alongside traditional Ukrainian symbols such as salo, borscht, gorilka, and the book "Kobzar". Verka Serduchka is the host of the most extreme talk show on post-Soviet TV, which is unique in that it is not produced in Moscow and is free from provincial constraints. Verka Serduchka is the only television star in the world who can freely walk the streets without fear of being mobbed for autographs and souvenirs. Outside of "SV-Show", Verka Serduchka is known as Andrey Danilko.
Early Life and Career
Andrey Danilko was born on October 2, 1973, in Poltava, Ukraine. During his school years, he participated in the theater studio "Grotesk". After graduating from high school, he studied at the School of Artists-Designers. He then worked as a cashier-salesman in a grocery store.
In 1992, two of his sketches, "The Conductor" and "The Cafeteria", were presented at a showcase of theater schools. In 1993, Verka Serduchka officially debuted at the "Yumorina" festival in Poltava. That same year, Andrey won the "Vsesmikh-93" contest in Kyiv with his sketch "The Conductor".
In 1995, Andrey enrolled in the Circus and Variety Arts School, specializing in the comic genre. He won the Grand Prix at the international festival "Sea of Laughter" the same year.
Television Career
In 1997, Andrey's first television program "SV-Show" aired on the Ukrainian channel "1+1", and from spring 1998, it also aired on RTR. From fall 1998, the show moved to "TV-6". "SV-Show" became immensely popular in Ukraine and beyond, showcasing Andrey's comedic talent and introducing the world to Verka Serduchka.
Andrey is known for his portrayal of Verka Serduchka, a character who is a train conductor. However, in real life, he dislikes traveling by train due to the hassles of customs and the potential for his true identity to be discovered. He prefers to travel by plane.
Personal Life
Andrey Danilko is not married and does not have any children. He considers himself an actor and emphasizes that his portrayal of Verka Serduchka is a character he plays, not a reflection of his personal identity. He enjoys the freedom of being able to walk the streets without being recognized as Verka Serduchka.
Andrey's favorite actress is Faina Ranevskaya, and his favorite television host is Leonid Parfyonov. He enjoys eating uha (fish soup), but does not like borscht and salo. He sees his current success as just the beginning of his career.
