Early Life and Career
Born Malinda Gayle McCready on November 30, 1975, in Fort Myers, Florida, Mindy McCready began singing in church at the age of three. At sixteen, she graduated from high school with a strong determination to pursue a career in the music industry. McCready moved to Nashville at eighteen and signed a contract with BNA Records.
In 1996, McCready released her debut album, "Ten Thousand Angels," which sold over two million copies and was certified double platinum by the RIAA. The album produced four successful singles, including the title track, "Guys Do It All the Time" (a duet with Lonestar's lead vocalist Richie McDonald), "Maybe He'll Notice Her Now," and "A Girl's Gotta Do (What a Girl's Gotta Do)."
Commercial Success and Setbacks
Her second album, "If I Don't Stay the Night," was released in 1997 and achieved gold certification. However, her third album, "I'm Not So Tough," released in 1999, was a commercial disappointment with only 144,000 copies sold. After parting ways with BNA Records, McCready released a self-titled album in 2002 under Capitol Records, but it also failed to gain commercial success.
Throughout her career, McCready had twelve singles that entered the Billboard country singles chart. Personal Struggles and Comeback
McCready's personal life has been marked by various challenges and tragedies. In 2005, her ex-boyfriend, Billy McKnight, was arrested for attempted murder after assaulting and strangling McCready. In July of the same year, she was found unconscious in a hotel lobby after attempting suicide. She was saved and hospitalized for a drug overdose. In September, while pregnant with McKnight's child, McCready made another suicide attempt. In March 2006, she gave birth to her son.

In May 2008, McCready released a new song titled "I'm Still Here" through her official website. She also announced her ongoing work on a documentary film, a new album, and a reality show.
