Biography of Miriam Gössner

Miriam Gössner is a German biathlete and skier. She was born on June 21, 1990, in Kreuth, Germany. Gössner started her sports career at the age of 18 when she participated in the Junior Biathlon World Championships in Ruhpolding in 2008. As a member of the relay team, she won her first world championship title.

The following year, Gössner competed in the Junior Biathlon World Championships in Alberta, Canada. She won a silver medal in the sprint and emerged victorious in the pursuit race, despite making 8 shooting errors. Her impressive skiing speed caught the attention of the German national cross-country ski team coaches. Gössner was included in the main ski racing team for the preparation of the 2009 World Ski Championships, where she won a silver medal as part of the relay team.

After a disappointing performance in the first stage of the 2009/2010 Biathlon World Cup, it became clear that Gössner had minimal chances of being selected for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Vancouver as part of the biathlon team. Consequently, she focused on competing for the cross-country ski team, which ultimately led to her greatest achievement in her sports career. Gössner, together with her teammates Kathrin Zeller, Evi Sachenbacher, and Claudia Nystad, won a silver medal in the women's 4x5 km relay event.

In the 2010/2011 season, despite objections from the German national cross-country ski team coaching staff, Gössner returned to the biathlon team. She announced that she would make the final decision between cross-country skiing and biathlon before the start of 2011. Gössner holds dual citizenship of Germany and Norway.

In preparation for the 2012/2013 season, Gössner underwent a dental operation and lost 10 kilograms. In January 2013, she expressed her intention to permanently move to Norway.

Miriam Gössner's career has been marked by her versatility in both biathlon and cross-country skiing. She has achieved significant success at the junior and senior levels, including silver medals in the Olympics and World Championships. Despite her challenges and setbacks, Gössner's determination and passion for sports continue to drive her forward.
