Early Life and Education
Dušan Dačić, a Serbian pianist, was born in Novi Sad, Serbia. He studied at the University of Novi Sad under Kemal Gekić.
Early Competitions and Success
In 1992, Dačić became the inaugural winner of the Novi Sad International Piano Competition. He followed this with victories at the Yugoslav National Competition for Young Pianists in 1993 and 1994. Notably, in 1993, he received a special prize for his exceptional performance of Sergei Rachmaninoff's works.
Education with Lazar Berman
In 1996, Dačić made a significant impression at the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition in Budapest, where he was the youngest participant. Jury member Lazar Berman invited him to join his piano school in Italy. Dačić studied there from 1997 to 2003, sporadically performing concerts in various Italian cities.
Debut Album and Critical Acclaim
Dačić's international career began with his debut album, "Hommage à Horowitz." Recorded in a single day in 2002, it featured works by renowned composers and Horowitz's piano transcriptions. Music educator Alan Fraser, who organized the recording, praised Dačić's exceptional talent.
The album received glowing reviews, including one from Gisela Brodsky, artistic director of the Miami International Piano Festival. Dačić was subsequently invited to participate in the festival's "Discoveries" program, which led him to stay in Florida and pursue further studies at the University of Miami under Frank Cooper and Philip Strange.
International Career and Touring
Dačić's career thrived with concerts in the United States, Italy, Turkey, Guatemala, Panama, and Jamaica. He performed at prestigious festivals such as the Martha Argerich Festival in Lugano and the El Paso Chopin Festival. Critics consistently praised his "superb and insightful" pianism, as noted in a review of his 2008 Brazilian tour.
DVD Release
In 2009, Dačić released a DVD featuring concert performances of works by Scarlatti, Bach, Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff. The DVD showcased his virtuosity and diverse repertoire.
