Mitch Zanette: A NASCAR Fan's Final Dream
A Lifetime of PassionMitch Zanette was a lifelong NASCAR enthusiast, but it was always a sideline hobby, a source of entertainment and local enjoyment. Now, facing the final days of his life, Zanette set out to fulfill his ultimate dream: witnessing the iconic Daytona race.

A Terminal Diagnosis
Just three weeks prior, doctors had given Zanette a grim prognosis of three days to live, a week at best. Cancer had taken a relentless toll, with both lymphoma and bone cancer afflicting his body.
A Determined Farewell
Undeterred, Zanette resolved to spend his remaining time creating cherished memories, including a lifelong dream: attending the Daytona race. With a limited window of opportunity, he checked out of the hospital and journeyed with his wife Tammy Bloodworth, son Mitchell Anthony, and brother Joe to the Daytona International Speedway in Florida.
A Memorable Arrival
Upon arriving, Zanette immersed himself in the spectacle. He strolled the beach, marveling at the ocean's serenity, and observed the meticulous work of pit crews. He mingled in local bars, engaging in lively conversations. And, etched in his memory forever, he witnessed Danica Patrick's historic pole position victory in the Sprint Cup.
A Sudden Decline
Despite his terminal illness, Zanette exuded a remarkable vitality. He forged friendships effortlessly, even posing for a photo with a local model. He spoke of extending his journey to see races in Phoenix and Las Vegas.
A Last Embrace
However, fate had other plans. On Wednesday night, Zanette's strength waned, and his loved ones gathered at a local hospital to bid farewell. He passed away before the main event, but his family remained in Daytona to honor his memory. Tammy, Mitchell, and Joe believed that attending Sunday's race would allow Mitch to fulfill his last dream.
