Early Life and Success
Mohamed Al-Modiahki, a Qatari chess grandmaster, rose to prominence in the Arab world. In 1986, he placed fourth at the World Under-12 Championship in Puerto Rico. Three years later, he triumphed at the 1989 Asian Under-16 Championship.
Dominance in Arab Championships
Al-Modiahki repeatedly showcased his prowess at the Arab Chess Championship. He emerged victorious in 1994, 1997, and 2000, and shared the top spot with Hicham Hamdouchi in 2002.
Participation in World Championships
Al-Modiahki made his mark on the global chess stage by competing in four World Chess Knockout Championships (1999, 2000, 2001, and 2004).
International Representation
Since 1988, Al-Modiahki has played for Qatar at chess Olympiads, taking the top board position from 1990 onwards. Despite facing weaker opponents due to the team's ranking, he achieved notable successes. In 1996, as an International Master, he outperformed legendary Garry Kasparov to secure first place on the top board, a remarkable feat.
Personal Life
Mohamed Al-Modiahki is married to Zhu Chen, a Chinese chess grandmaster and former world champion. The couple met in Malaysia in 1994 and tied the knot in 2001.
