Molla Safar Ali-bek: A Prominent 19th Century Azerbaijani Religious Figure
Early Life and Education
Born in 1803 in the village of Khanakhash, Molla Safar Ali-bek hailed from the prominent Malik-Ghaikazovs noble family of Karabakh. His father, Aghajan-bek, was a wealthy landowner.
Ali-bek received his initial education from his father, followed by studies at the Bayt ul-Adab madrasa in Shusha. He later earned the title of "Molla" and pursued advanced theological training in Najaf, Iraq.
Religious and Literary Contributions
Beyond his religious duties, Molla Safar Ali-bek was a prolific poet, composing lyrical verses in both Azerbaijani and Persian. He placed great emphasis on morality and ethical values. Unfortunately, only a small fraction of his literary works have survived.
Family and Legacy
Molla Safar Ali-bek was married to Gulbadam-khanum and had two sons: Ali-bek and Hasan-bek. He passed away in 1876, leaving a significant legacy as a respected religious leader and a proponent of moral teachings.
