Biography of Monica Seles
Monica Seles was born on December 2, 1973, in the small town of Novi Sad, then part of Yugoslavia, to parents Esther and Karoy Seles. Her older brother initially served as her mentor, but her father soon took over her training as he felt her brother was too lenient. However, their limited family budget prevented them from hiring a professional coach.

For three years, her father taught Monica the secrets of the game using the "World Tennis" magazine. At the age of 10, Monica won her first tournament in Venezuela. A year later, she signed a contract with the company "Advantage International," and she and her father received 700 Deutsche Marks monthly.

After just one and a half years, at a tournament in Orlando, renowned specialist Nick Bollettieri approached Karoy with the intention of taking Monica under his wing and training her at his world-famous academy. In addition to mastering the art of tennis there, Seles also learned English. The results of her training at "Papa Nick's" Academy soon became evident. In the fall of 1988, Monica won her first professional tournament. In June 1990, she triumphed at the Roland Garros Grand Slam tournament. She has a total of nine victories at tournaments of this level, with her last success at the Australian Open in 1996 coming after her "return from hell."
Currently, Monica Seles resides in Sarasota, Florida, in the United States. In addition to tennis, she has a passion for fashion, although she does not develop her own clothing lines like Steffi Graf. Seles has always been known as the biggest fashionista among tennis stars, with impeccable taste. Another way in which she distinguishes herself from her peers on the court is through her excellent culinary skills. She also enjoys basketball, a sport that is close to her family, as well as swimming, thanks to her impressive height of 180 cm and her considerable strength for a young woman.
