Biography of Morgan Scott Peck

Morgan Scott Peck was an American psychiatrist and author of numerous best-selling books. He served as the medical director of a clinic in New Milford. Born in New York, Peck attended the prestigious Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire at the age of 13. In his book, "The Road Less Traveled," he secretly shares the story of his time at Exeter, admitting that it was the most dreadful period of his life.

Peck obtained a bachelor's degree from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, conducted medical research at Columbia University in New York, and earned a medical degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army and rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel. During his time in the military, Peck also worked as the senior psychologist at a military medical center in Okinawa, Japan, and as an assistant chief psychiatrist and neurologist in Washington, D.C.

In 1984, Peck became a co-founder of the Foundation for Community Encouragement, a tax-exempt, nonprofit educational foundation whose primary mission was to "teach individuals and organizations the principles of community." He is best known for his first and most famous book, "The Road Less Traveled," which sold over 10 million copies.

In 1994, Peck received the Christian International Peace Award. He passed away at his home in Connecticut from Parkinson's disease and lung cancer.
