Early Life and Education
Alimbzhan Berikuly was born in 1946 in the village of "Kommunar" in the Sarysu district of the Zhambyl region. In 1969, he graduated from the Faculty of Electronic Engineering at the Saratov Polytechnic Institute.
Academic Career
After graduating, Berikuly was appointed as a young specialist to the Kazakhstan Polytechnic Institute (KazPTI). In 1973, he enrolled in the full-time postgraduate program at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MEI) in the Department of Industrial Electronics. Upon completing his postgraduate studies, he worked as a research associate at KazPTI before being elected to the position of senior lecturer at the Department of "Electrical Measurements and Applied Electrical Engineering" at the Alma-Ata Energy Institute (AEI) in 1977.
Doctoral Dissertation and Professorship
In 1981, Berikuly defended his doctoral dissertation in "Electrical and Semiconductor Converters" at the Leningrad Institute of Precision Mechanics and Optics. In 1985, he was awarded the academic title of associate professor. From 1997, he served as the head of the Department of Electronics and Computer Technologies at the Almaty Institute of Energy and Communications (AIES). In 1998, he became an academic professor at AIES.
Regional Cisco Networking Academy
Under Berikuly's leadership, the Department of Electronics and Computer Technologies became the leading graduating department of the institute, boasting:
- 16 doctors and candidates of science
- 9 teaching laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art equipment- Over 100 personal computers
- Numerous software products
From 2003 onwards, the department successfully operated a local Cisco Networking Academy, which prepared IT specialists in five training courses. Around 400 students received Cisco Academy international certificates, enabling them to secure key positions in various economic sectors in Kazakhstan.
Contributions to Education
In recognition of Berikuly's exceptional guidance, the local Cisco Networking Academy at AIES was upgraded to a regional academy in April 2008, authorizing it to train instructors for Cisco Networking Academies in Central Asian countries.
Berikuly co-authored the first Kazakh-Russian-English IT dictionary in Kazakhstan with Professor Turym Askym Shamulov of KazNTI. The dictionary was published in the Digital Kazakhstan magazine from March 2008 onwards.
Publications and Conference Participation
Berikuly published around 100 scientific publications, including:- 1 textbook

He participated in international scientific conferences and seminars in Bulgaria, Germany, Belgium, Moscow, and St. Petersburg. Berikuly authored a textbook on "Technical Electronics" in Kazakh, a teaching manual on "Semiconductor Devices," a "Kazakh-Russian-English Dictionary of Terms and Phrases in Radio Electronics," and a Kazakh-Russian and Russian-Kazakh dictionary of terms in "Electronics, Radio Engineering, and Communications."
Legacy
Berikuly's scientific competence, qualifications, hard work, honesty, and integrity set an exemplary model for dedication, unwavering commitment to his profession, and high responsibility in the education and training of young engineers.
In 2008, the teaching laboratory of the regional Cisco Academy at AIES was named after Alimbzhan Berikuly. A memorial plaque dedicated to his memory was unveiled at AIES in 2009.
