Early Career: From High School to the ABABorn on March 23, 1955, in Petersburg, Virginia, Moses Malone skipped college basketball and went straight from high school to the American Basketball Association (ABA) with the Utah Stars in 1974. At age 19, he averaged 19 points and 14.5 rebounds per game in his rookie season. The following year, he played for the St. Louis Spirits before joining the Houston Rockets after the ABA's dissolution in 1976.

Stardom in Houston and Philadelphia
In Houston, Malone's talent truly emerged. He won the NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award in 1978-1979 after averaging 24.8 points and 17.6 rebounds per game. In 1981, he led the previously lackluster Rockets to the NBA Finals, where they lost in six games to Boston. Malone's scoring prowess reached new heights in the following season, as he averaged 31.1 points per game and earned his second MVP title.

Malone's most dominant season came with the Philadelphia 76ers in 1982-1983. He claimed his third MVP award and propelled his new team to the NBA Finals, where they swept the Los Angeles Lakers in four games. Malone was named the Finals MVP after averaging over 20 points per game in each contest.
After three more seasons in Philadelphia, Malone joined the Washington Bullets in 1986. He then played for the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks before returning to Philadelphia in 1993. His final NBA season was with the San Antonio Spurs.

Over 21 years in professional basketball, Malone appeared in 1455 games (1329 in the NBA), played 49444 minutes (45071 in the NBA), scored 29580 points (27409 in the NBA), made 9018 free throws (8531 in the NBA), and grabbed 17834 rebounds (16212 in the NBA).
