Early Life and Education

Born into a family of filmmakers, Murray Head's father was documentary filmmaker Seafield Head, and his mother was actress Helen Shingler, famous for her role in the BBC television series "Maigret." His younger brother, Anthony Head, is also a renowned actor, best known for his role in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Head received his primary and secondary education at the Lycée Charles de Gaulle in South Kensington and Hampton School in London.

Career Beginnings in Film and Theatre

Murray Head made his film debut in "The Family Way" (1966) alongside Hayley Mills. His breakthrough on the musical scene came when Lloyd Webber and Rice recruited him for the original cast of "Jesus Christ Superstar." Head's rendition of the track "Superstar" was released as a single in 1971 and became a chart success.

Success with "Jesus Christ Superstar" and Film Roles

In 1971, Head landed a leading role in the Oscar-nominated film "Sunday Bloody Sunday" with Peter Finch and Glenda Jackson. He achieved further musical success with his hit single "Say It Ain't So Joe" in 1975. During the 1970s, Head also starred in the radio drama "The Fourth Tower of Inverness" and appeared in an episode of "Return of the Saint" (ITV).

International Acclaim with "Chess" and French Success

Head returned to the spotlight in 1984 with the release of the "Chess" album, based on the musical of the same name. His performance of the single "One Night in Bangkok" became an international hit. Later on, Head released several albums in French, including the hit "Une femme un homme" with Marie Carmen, which brought him popularity in France and Canada.

Personal Life

Murray Head was married to Susan Ellis Jones from 1972 to 1992. They had two daughters together, Katherine and Sophie.
