Research and Academic Career

1931-1948: Early Research and Institute Leadership

After graduation, Aliyev worked at the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute and the Transcaucasian Cotton Institute from 1931 to 1936. He then joined the Institute of Botany of the Azerbaijan Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences (AN USSR) in 1936. From 1940 to 1947, he served as head of the Plant Physiology and Biochemistry Department, and from 1947 to 1948, he was appointed director of the institute.

1950-1978: Professorship and Institute Leadership

In 1950, Aliyev became a professor at the Azerbaijan State University. He continued his research and held leadership roles in various research institutes. From 1960 to 1962, he served as director of the Institute of Genetics and Selection of the AN Azerbaijan SSR. From 1962 to 1978, he was director of the Institute of Botany of the AN Azerbaijan SSR.

From 1978: Research Lab Leadership

After 1978, Aliyev became head of a research laboratory at the Institute of Botany of the AN Azerbaijan SSR.

Research Focus and Contributions

Professor Aliyev's research primarily focused on the study of mineral nutrition in plants. He investigated the processes of uptake, transport, distribution, and reutilization of chemical elements within plant organisms. His research highlighted the positive effects of certain micronutrients on photosynthesis intensity, carbohydrate and nitrogen metabolism, and the nitrogen-fixing capacity of various soil types.

Notable Contribution to Education

Professor Aliyev authored the first textbook on plant physiology in the Azerbaijani language, published in 1956. His work played a crucial role in advancing botanical knowledge and education in Azerbaijan.
