Biography of Naomi Riches

Naomi Riches is a British athlete and rower who has competed in the 2008 and 2012 Summer Paralympics. She was born in Hammersmith, London, England, and due to her visual impairment, she was classified as 'B3'. Despite her disability, Riches actively pursued her passion for sports.

Early Life and Education

Naomi Riches attended the Royal National Institute for the Blind in Worcester, where she discovered her love for rowing. At the age of 12, she became the National Disabled Swimming champion. She later pursued higher education at Buckinghamshire New University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with a specialization in metalwork and jewelry design.

Rowing Career

Riches developed a passion for rowing during her time in Worcester. She competed in the LTAMix4+ category, which involves mixed coxed four-rowing with legs, trunk, and arms. In 2004, 2005, and 2006, she won gold at the World Rowing Championships, and in 2007, she achieved a silver medal.

In 2008, Riches was selected to represent Great Britain in the inaugural Paralympic rowing events at the Beijing Paralympic Games. She won a bronze medal as a part of the British team in the LTAMix4+ category, alongside Alastair McKean, Vicki Hansford, James Morgan, and coxswain Alan Sherman.

In 2009, Riches added another victory to her accomplishments, winning another world-level competition. She competed with Hansford, David Smith, James Roe, and Rhiannon Jones. At the 2010 World Rowing Championships, she won silver with Smith, Roe, Ryan Chamberlain, and Jones.

In 2011, Riches participated in the World Rowing Championships at Lake Bled, Bled, Slovenia. She, along with Pamela Relph, David Smith, James Roe, and Lily van den Broecke, achieved another remarkable victory. The same team represented Britain at the 2012 Paralympic Games, where they secured a gold medal once again.
