Biography of Narine Abgaryan
Narine Abgaryan is a Russian writer and a member of the board of trustees of the charitable foundation "Creation". She was born on January 14, 1971, in the city of Berd, Tavush region, Armenia, into a family of a doctor and a teacher. In addition to Narine, she has a brother and three sisters: Karine, Gayane, Sona, and Aik. Her paternal grandfather was an Armenian refugee from Western Armenia, and her paternal grandmother was an Armenian from Eastern Armenia (which was part of the Russian Empire for two hundred years). Her maternal grandfather was also an Armenian from Karabakh, and her maternal grandmother was a Russian from the Arkhangelsk region of Russia.
Narine graduated from Yerevan State Linguistic University named after V. Y. Bryusov and moved to Moscow in 1993. Her path to literary recognition began when she started her own page on the popular LiveJournal platform. Her story about the girl Manya caught the attention of writer Lara Gaul, who helped Narine Abgaryan approach "Azbuka-Atticus" publishing house.
Activity
Narine Abgaryan's work became known after the publication of her autobiographical novella "Manya". Later, the author wrote a trilogy about the adventures of the little girl and several more novels and stories. In 2014, the children's book "Chocolate Grandfather", co-authored with Valentin Postnikov, was published. In August 2015, Narine Abgaryan was named one of the two laureates (alongside Irina Kraeva) of the Russian literary award named after Alexander Green for her outstanding contribution to the development of Russian literature.
Adaptations
The play based on the book "Manya" has been staged in "SamArt" and the Omsk Youth Theater.
