Early Life and Career

Beginnings in Baku

Ayan Mammadova, an Azerbaijani chess virtuoso, was born in Baku, the vibrant capital of Azerbaijan, in 1993. Her journey into the intricate world of chess began at an early age, and by 2009, she had earned the prestigious title of Woman International Master (WIM). In 2015, she reached the pinnacle of her career by becoming a Woman Grandmaster (WGM).

International Achievements

World Chess Olympiad

Mammadova's exceptional skills propelled her to represent Azerbaijan on the international stage. In 2016, she made her debut at the World Chess Olympiad as part of the nation's formidable women's team.

Youth and Junior Championships

Before her WGM triumph, Mammadova garnered accolades in youth and junior tournaments. In 2008, she captured the silver medal in the Azerbaijani Women's Championship. That same year, she narrowly missed the gold, claiming the bronze in the Azerbaijani Under-20 Girls' Championship. Her crowning achievement came in 2010 when she emerged victorious at the World Youth Chess Championship in the Under-18 girls' category in Halkidiki, Greece.

As of April 2009, Mammadova holds an impressive FIDE rating of 2211, ranking her 416th among active female players worldwide. In Europe, she occupies the 333rd spot, while in Azerbaijan, she stands as the sixth-best female chess player in the country.
