Early Life and Education

Born on March 20, 1969 in Chisinau, Moldova, Natalia Gherman is the daughter of Moldova's first President Mircea Snegur. She graduated with a degree in English and German philology from the State University of Moldova. In 1992, she completed the National School of Political and Administrative Studies in Bucharest.

Diplomatic Career

Gherman's diplomatic career began in 2002, when she was appointed Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna. She served in this role until 2006, when she took up the post of Ambassador to Sweden, Norway, and Finland.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs

In 2009, Gherman was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, and chief negotiator for the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union. In 2013, she became First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and European Integration in the government of Iurie Leanca.

Special Representative for Central Asia

In September 2017, Gherman was appointed Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, based in Ashgabat. In this role, she promotes regional stability and cooperation in Central Asia.

Political Stances

Gherman is a staunch advocate of Moldova's Euro-integration and opposes its integration into the Eurasian Economic Union. She has also supported the ban on the retransmission of Russian television channels in Moldova.

In addition to her native Moldovan, Gherman is fluent in English, Russian, French, and German. She has received several awards, including:
